Kensington was designed by architect William Hodgen Junior in 1897 and was designed for Toowoomba draper George Pitlow Merry who purchased the the site in 1897 when a new subdivision of 38 lots known as Kensington Estate went up for auction.
Costing £1,035 and built mostly of timber and consisting of eight rooms, during the 1990s over $1,000,000 was spent on restoration works and the building is presently used as a legal firm.
