The Milne Bay Aquatic Centre was officially opened by the Toowoomba City Council in 1960 and was originally known as the 'Milne Bay Memorial Swimming Pool' in memory of the 25th Battalion from the Toowoomba region who served in the Battle of Milne Bay during the second world war in PNG.
