As well as provision of water to the city, Toowoomba City Council also provides water to some of the surrounding Shires. Toowoomba City Council has a strong focus on the education and awareness of 'Waterwise Initiatives' to ensure an adequate supply of water for our future.
All of the city's wastewater is treated to a high level, with the majority of nutrients and organic material present in the water removed prior to discharge into Gowrie Creek.
In pursuing its corporate goals towards ecological sustainability, Toowoomba City Council currently supplies wastewater to Millmerran Power Station and New Wave Leather. Toowoomba City Council is looking at other reuse opportunities such as further supply to industry and agriculture.
